Purpose of a shepherd

I have been doing some studying of the purpose of a shepherd. In the time of the bible the shepherd would have 100 sheep. At times they would have to leave 99 to go look for that one sheep who wandered way. When that one sheep was found the shepherd would carry the sheep on his shoulders back to the flock. What I found when studying was that the Shepherd would break the legs of the sheep. This was so they would be dependent on the shepherd to provide for them.

This is much how are heavenly father cares for us. He my not physically break my legs, but he expects me to depend on him for every thing. Just something to think about.
